Cory Stanton Leaves Basketball Program
Rising 2nd year PG Cory Stanton has announced that he will be leaving Clemson in order to be closer to home. Stanton recorded quality minutes for the Tigers and was looked at as a backup PG to Andre Young next year.
Stanton was a good player, not a great scorer but he did play quality defense, especially as a freshman. While I think this lost certainly does not help us, I don't believe it will hurt too much. Stanton was not really a starting ACC caliber guard, he was more of a holdover from Brownell's previous post. He took the advantage of Brownell not being able to fully recruit that cycle. Obviously, the Tigers had a great PG last year in Stitt. He was someone who could gash defenses and finish around the rim. Stanton was not this type of player, but to be honest, I don't think that type of player exists on the roster right now. That is where the Tigers are most likely going to find trouble, especially when defenders creep out on the arc to cover Young. Stanton would have been a quality player this year and good backup. It would be nice to have the bridge of depth between Stitt and the new incoming guards such as Sapp and Coleman. This most likely means the young freshman will see some valuable minutes on the hardwood this winter. We wish Cory the best of luck in all of his pursuits. Thanks for giving your effort to Clemson.
