Clemson QB Tajh Boyd |
Clemson QB Tajh Boyd has been named ACC Player of the Week by rivals.com for games of Sept. 3.
The website chooses one player from each conference each week. Boyd threw 3 touchdown passes and completed 20-30 for 264 yards against Troy. This was the second greatest passing performance by a Clemson QB in his first start in Clemson history. (Former Clemson QB Charlie Whitehurst threw for 420 yards in his first start at Duke in 2002.)
Boyd completed only 3 of his first 9 passes for 65 yards in a tough first half Saturday. But, he then led Clemson in a come-from-behind win completing 14-18 for 199 yards and 2 touchdowns in the second half. At one point, Tajh connected on 13 straight passes and had a rating of 204 in the second half.
Boyd's touchdown throw, a 33-yarder to true freshman Sammy Watkins, was his first completion of the game. His 54 yard touchdown pass to TE Dwayne Allen sparked the Tigers in the second half and turned the momentum back in the favor of the Tigers. Then on the next drive, he completed 9 straight passes with the last one being a 7 yard laser to Jaron Brown in the endzone.
